Can I Use Homemade Apple Butter For Scones

Absolutely! If you have homemade apple butter use that, otherwise you can buy apple butter at the store. I just bought some, since I didn’t have any homemade in the fridge. These scones turned out fantastic.

Why Do My Scones Crumble When Cut

Sometimes you will find that little pieces of butter melt during the baking in between the dough, and it creates areas that don’t form together as well. Sometimes you will find if the scone doesn’t mix all the way through, it will become crumbly.

Why Do My Scones Not Rise

Making sure your baking powder is fresh is important. If you have had it opened for over a six month period, you might consider buying new. Another thing is overmixing the dough can lead to flat scones.

Can You Freeze Scones

Yes! You will want to allow your scones to cool completely and then transfer them to a freezer bag or airtight container. Then store in the freezer for up to three months. Thaw on the counter and then enjoy. Or if you are in a hurry, zap in the microwave for a quick reheat.

Can You Keep Scone Dough In The Fridge

If you plan to make scones for breakfast and don’t want all the extra prep, you can follow directions and leave the scone dough covered in the fridge overnight. Then bring the dough out, lay on the baking sheet, cut and then bake accordingly. If the dough is still pretty chilled add a few minutes to the baking time.
