Dollar General Cashier:Front end and basically register, cashier. Simple. Someone come to the register, rang them out. That’s it. Put away the u-boats. Simple stuff. It’s all simple things.

Interviewer:Please describe the application and interview process.
Dollar General Cashier:It was online. So you know, do the application, you would do your resume, and that’s basically it. The interviewing itself. Well, I worked on Madison and 89th, so basically it was a short interview. They walked you through and it was basically only 20 minutes. So they tell you like, okay, the policies and what you’re supposed to do. And that’s basically was it.

Interviewer:What questions did the interviewer ask during the job interview?
Dollar General Cashier:Did I work in retail before? And the question was no. So basically it was my first job, and that’s basically it.

Interviewer:How were you notified that you received the job?
Dollar General Cashier:Two days. Email.

Interviewer:What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?
Dollar General Cashier:The advice I would give a job seeker, be patient. That’s it.

Dollar General Cashier: At Dollar General, I was a cashier/stock. Mainly cashier, though. That would be… my official job title was cashier.

Interviewer: What was the work environment like?
Dollar General Cashier: Friendly. You interacted with a lot of people. Doing a lot of math – you have to do a lot of math. One thing you got to know about Dollar General is you have to know about the products. People will ask you what it is, what’s the difference between them. For example, the difference between different mouthwashes: some of it has alcohol, some of it doesn’t. So, you just have to know your product. Fast paced… you just got to be ready, have to be able to communicate with others.

Interviewer: What was your favorite part about working there?
Dollar General Cashier: Communicating with others. Being a people person, so it’s fun talking to and meeting new people.

Interviewer: Please describe a typical day as an employee.
Dollar General Cashier: Early morning rush. Afternoon, slow day, night time, time to go. So, yeah, that’s how it usually is.

Interviewer: How would you describe the application and interview process?
Dollar General Cashier: I did the application online. After that, I got a call for an interview. Went in, did the first interview. They had someone else come in, review the application, make sure I was qualified for the job. They called me, told me I was hired, and asked me when I could start.

Interviewer: What questions did the interviewer ask during the job interview?
Dollar General Cashier: Well, previous experience as far as my jobs. “Have I worked with others before?”, and basic questions from the company. Then, you have questions, like: “If you saw a friend stealing, would you tell on them?” So, basic questions.

Interviewer: What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?
Dollar General Cashier: Keep at it. If that’s what you want to do, make it a career. Keep at it.
