Starters

Q. What does it mean when a Pokémon has a purple box around it on the starter select?

  • That Pokémon has Pokérus, which in this game means they'll earn extra exp.

  • Each daily reset will see 3 random starter pokemon be given Pokérus.

More details here.

Q. Why is there a blue and purple icon beside my starter on the starter screen?

  • If your Starter has a blue and purple icon beside it, it has a hidden ability

  • If you have multiple abilities you can switch between them by pressing E

Q. Why is there a heart next to my Eevee/Pikachu

  • A heart icon signifies that that is the partner Pikachu/Eevee

  • If you have both versions you can switch between them by pressing F

Q. What does having a 'Shiny' Pokémon do? What is Luck?

  • Increases the odds of items tiering up (the ball they are in visibly changing to a higher tier ball) in the after battle rewards.

Explained more in depth here.

Q. How do I unlock a starter's Passive?

  • You use candy obtained by catching, hatching or gaining friendship with that pokemon to unlock it from the starter select screen.

More details here.

Gameplay

Q. The game runs really slow, how can I fix this?

  • Go in your browser settings and enable 'Hardware Acceleration' or 'Graphics Acceleration' and it shouldn't be slow anymore.

  • It also happens when there are too many people playing the game at once.

Q. What do (P) and (N) next to moves and abilities mean?

  • (P) means partially implemented. Move Stats (BP, PP, Accuracy, Priority) are implemented, additional effects are usually not.

  • (N) means not implemented. This move does nothing and should not be learned.

See all (P) and (N) moves and abilities here

Q. What does item XYZ do?

  • If you hover your mouse or hold your finger on mobile over any item you have, it will tell you what it does.

For more info on specific items, check the Items page.

Q. When do stats reset?

  • Stat buffs and debuffs reset when your pokemon is recalled into their ball, for example at the start of a trainer battle or boss fight or when you change biomes.

Q. Can you catch boss Pokémon?

  • Yes, but you first must lower its health to the last section.

  • You can bypass this by using a Master Ball.

  • You cannot catch any Paradox Pokémon that are in The End biome unless you already have that Paradox Pokémon as a starter and are in Classic Mode.

Q. How can I tell if a Pokemon I caught has a hidden ability?

  • The ability font is in yellow to show that it is the hidden ability.

Q. How do I evolve my Pokemon who needs to be traded? Or any other evolution method?

  • Some of the evolution methods in Pokerogue have been changed from the main Pokemon games.

  • Trade evolutions in Pokerogue now need an item called the Linking Cord.

More details here.

Q. How can I Mega Evolve or Gigantamax?

  • Once you find the Mega Bracelet, the Mega Stone you need will be added to the pool of items you can find.

    • Rayquaza requires you also have its signature move Dragon Ascent, as well as Rayquazite.

    • Primal Reversions work the same as Mega Evolution.

  • Once you find the Dynamax Band, Mega Mushrooms are added to the pool of items you can find.

More details here.

Q. How do the Pokémon Fusion Mechanics work?

  • DNA Splicer lets you fuse together 2 Pokemon, combining some aspects of each.

More details here.

Modes

Q. What time does the Daily Run reset?

  • 12AM UTC / 8PM EST / 5PM PST

Q. How long does a Daily Run last and what do you get for doing them outside of bragging rights?

  • A Daily Run is composed of 50 floors, with randomly selected pokemon.

  • Completing a Daily Run will earn you an Egg Voucher Premium (10x eggs) to use in the egg gacha for beating it once each day.

Q. When I finish wave 5850 in endless, the gamestops.

  • Currently when you beat wave 5850 in either of the Endless modes the game will run out of tokens to give to the enemy pokemon, causing the game to soft lock. There have been rare instances where this was bypassed, but this is the normal behavior for now.

More details here.

Events

Q. I have a Shiny Charm or there is a Shiny Weekend event. Do these effect hatching eggs?

  • The Shiny Charm only effects the wild Pokemon in your run. Not the eggs you get from the Gacha Machines.

  • Events will state in the announcement if the increased shiny chance only effects wild Pokemon or also eggs, however, to date no shiny weekend event has effected eggs.

Q. There is an event. How do I make sure my game is updated?

  • Read the announcement to be sure, but typically clearing your browser's cache will do it.

  • (Ctrl + F5) or go to browser settings and select clear browsing data.
