It's an exciting day at Hey, Black Seattle! We had our first directory member to post job listings to the website! Thank you to Technology Access Foundation for sharing your job openings with our community. Hey, Black Seattle is a central community resource designed to bring the Black residents of King, Pierce, Kitsap, & Snohomish counties information that can be hard to find, but that could support them in their lives. So far, I have focused on presenting info about businesses, community organizations, healthcare providers, tradespeople, artists and events. But one of the FAQs I get when I'm out speaking with people is: "can you help us with finding job openings?"So, I'm committed to answering the call I'm hearing from the community. Reach out to me if you want to post your jobs in this space that is focused on reaching the Black residents of the Greater Seattle Area. P.S. Yes, there is a setup in our system for allies to the community to post their jobs.

In case you missed it when it aired, here is the full segment on a “hidden gem” Black-owned spa in Renton, WA called Beautiful Awakenings. Check it out next time you need pampering. Cheers to the owner Jamila Johnson who has not only been serving health and wellness needs, but also using her spa as a means through which she amplifies the work of others in the community.

How about a bit of story time…In 2018, I was cohosting the Global Business Development Summit at Microsoft and had an idea for an open space we had in the agenda. I hired young New Orleans filmmaker Adrian Jordan Jr. and produced a short feature with him where we cast the children of the org’s team members to play the leaders of the team. Because of Adrian’s skill and talent, it was done at a higher level than I could have done myself and it was a huge hit. That project showed me what is possible for my vision when I work with other people in their zone of genius. In 2021, I shot a mini-doc all by myself…I loved doing it but it was SO hard. The editing process alone made me wanna flip all the tables. It reminded me of the value of having a great co-producer like I had before, a true director, a pro to educate and push me.That’s exactly what just happened in my latest film project with Big Rock Productions I went in wanting to tell the story of why I launched Hey, Black Seattle! alongside some members of the community who inspired me to launch the company. What Cedric Prim and the team he assembled helped me to produce is a next-level five-part love letter to the community I hope to serve.I couldn’t be more proud to present to you the Hey Black Seattle! We Are Here Series. When you watch it, you will learn why this work means so much to me. But you won’t see the team that was involved, so I want to take this opportunity to thank Big Rock Productions, Cedric Prim and the whole crew, the birthing team. You all were more than creative partners, you helped me grow and develop and you left me better as a producer than you found me. Everyone, please visit the link in the comments and check out the series. Portions of the series are currently airing on #Back2Besa on Fox 13 Seattle, which is amazing!! You can catch one tonight (Sat 8/3) at 10:30pm and on tomorrow (Sun 8/4) at 10am. Please reach out if you are interested in helping to spread the word about the video series or about Hey Black Seattle. They say it takes a village - well, village, let’s go!

If you are in the Seattle area and have not visited ARTE NOIR, do yourself a favor and change that asap, ok? This arts & culture space on the iconic intersection of 23rd and Union in the Central District is an essential hub of Black creativity. It’s one of my favorite places in Seattle and I want everyone to know about it. Thank you to Jazmyn Scott and Vivian Phillips for this haven, this charging station for the soul. Your love of community fuels my work (and your staff rocks). You are a North Star. This Arte Noir feature is part of a five-part series I produced in partnership with the incredible folks at Big Rock Productions to bring you a small window into the people and history that motivated me to create Hey, Black Seattle! The main feature is available via our website (link in the comments) and interview features are premiering first on #Back2Besa on Fox13. Thank you Converge Media LLC for this collaboration and for the work you do every day. ——————-Hey, Black Seattle, learn about your community and discover your opportunities to connect.
