Looks like EA is dropping a 20+ minute video highlighting gameplay for the new college football game (coming out next week). In the teaser, it showed The Don playing a game against some content creator. Should be good content, even if you're not a gamer!

Who is "The Don"? I've heard Michigan graduated all of their talented players who had been in college longer because of the Covid season - and, there's nothing left.

Oh - didn't he run a couple of times in Columbus in '22? And - did he even play in the NC game against Washington? Ahhhh - now I remember.

For all the crap this board gives TreVeyon Henderson for depending on breaking long runs to be effective, Don is TreVeyon x2 on his dependency on long runs.

Don's rushing performance vs Washington, mentioned below, was 83% on two plays.

Don's rushing performance vs OSU 2022, mentioned below and on ~685,000 other occasions, was 74% on two plays.

Don's a big-play threat for sure. We'll see how he performs in 2024. It could be that Mullings gets more carries by being more consistent at advancing the ball.

I also remember him running for 104 yards and 2 touchdowns in something called the "national championship." You might not have seen it though because you were probably busy crying about CHEATERZZZZ and day dreaming about days gone by from when OSU used to actually win big games.

Ahhh - yes, I do remember him. And, though I'm sure you noticed this too - but, were too modest to mention - Donovan only averaged 3.1 YPC against OSU this past fall in Ann Arbor. He did complete one pass for a measly 34 yards.

Going back a year or so - Donovan only managed 9.8 YPC in Columbus in '22. That was the game where Corum only ran twice and determined he wasn't good enough to go.

It looks like Donovan is more effective in Columbus than he is in Ann Arbor. Where are they playing The Game this year?

I don't wish to be a nuisance, or "fly in the ointment" - however, Donovan Edwards could actually bring in a bit of controversy to Michigan football this season.

Many Michigan fans may not want to acknowledge this - however, what he has demonstrated through his performance on the field reflects a potential fracturing within the fanbase - though, I'm optimisitic that it will not materially impact the culture of the team.

So - what is this potential controversy? It's at the QB position. When Donovan has played QB - or, more accurately, thrown the ball - he has a 100% completion rate - with an average Yards Per Attempt of 36 yards. I wonder if there's any other player in college football today with a similar stat line.

This might introduce a bit more of a challenge in identifying the starting QB for this season. I trust Sherrone and the staff to figure this out. And - I don't have a horse in the QB race - whoever is most prepared and capable of leading the offense is what I root for.

Thank you for catching this - and my apologies for the oversight. It seems Kalel is also perfect as a passer - 100% completion rate, with 15 Yards Per Attempt.

This controversy might go deeper than I thought.

(And - FWIW - my comments on this "QB controversy" are purely sarcastic - to include Donovan and Kalel. I have nothing but appreciation and admiration for every player on the roster - and Donovan / Kalel will be great in the run game. As for who the starting QB will be - as noted above - it doesn't matter to me - the best player to lead the offense is the answer - so, wishing Alex, Davis, Jack, Jadyn, Jayden, and Anthony a great summer and fall camp.)

There were two things I liked about the video.

1.) The Don can obviously read defenses better than the social media talking heads. Not only can he read the running gaps, but he demonstrated an ability to move up in the pocket and wait for someone to break free rather than forcing it into coverage for the most part. His adversary was repeatedly throwing at covered receivers if nothing was immediately open.

2.) I like that the game added a "shell" feature. For example, the player is now able to use sim pressures like showing a Cover 0 and then backing into a Cover 3. In the past, some of these football games felt more like you were waiting for the Offense to make a mistake in opposed to actively taking away their first read or forcing them to take a split-second longer to see who drops into coverage and who is actually blitzing.

that jumped out to me too. I don't know Bordeaux, by all accounts he got considerably more popular because of the game release and his access. But DE out played him...you could very easily see the difference in someone who knows football compared to someone who knows video games.

When I hear the term "the Don" , it usually refers to something else, but I shall digress.

With regard to Donovan Edwards..his success will 99% depend on how quickly the new O-Line gels and whether it proves to be a top twenty O-Line or not. Very few backs can deal with an unsettled/weak O-Line (the relationship between O-Line and RB success is one of the reasons NFL teams no longer pay big $ for star running backs).

The one thing I was curious about was if any starters opted out, but they look all there unless I am missing something, so that is nice. Interesting that UM's defense rating is not higher when it looks like they have Graham, Grant, Johnson, Barnham, Stewart and Page all as stars. I couldn't tell if Rod Moore was in the video though, he should be included and another star especially with news today about him possibly being back mid season. Gameplay wise looks pretty decent, only negative is there are defiantly some things animation wise ripped straight from Madden. The game will seem like a massive leap though for anyone who haven't really played any recent football games since NCAA 14.

Ah didn't catch that but it looks like Barnham is the one with the star. I honestly wonder what the threshold or criteria is for a star in the game because like I said seems odd that UM has at least 6 defensively but is only a 90 overall on defense and so far behind OSU's 96. Then again whoever did the ratings in this game also has Colorado as a top 25 overall defense so who the hell knows the logic, etc.

I was really into the game back before they stopped making it. I had pre ordered it and don't play very many games anymore, but this game looks absolutely amazing. It really seems like many of the features that they have added, have never been in any game before. The realism is just insane from watching some of the promo vids. I find myself trying not to think about it, so I don't get too excited. Next monday, we will be able to try it out for ourselves.

Only bummer for me was a shot of the depth chart for QB. Not sure if it showed up briefly on the main video, but Bordeaux had a few shots on his video that weren't in the EA feed. Looks like in the build they played that Jadyn Davis was not in the game. Could be an older build though. Was hoping to run a multi-year dynasty and see him step up in year 2 or year 3.

Ah, yeah that would be a bummer, wonder if he opted out or EA just didn't a great job with incoming freshman if not an old build? Not a great sign for how well they did with freshmen if it's the former and not an old build, and one of UM's most important freshmen is missing. I am very excited overall but it is a bummer in general having no ability to edit the rosters at all. In that depth chart shot how far were the other QB's behind Orji? Because they honestly should be pretty close to him in overall rating.

Hmm that has to be an old build or something because they said Orji was a 83 before, but he looks like a 78 there. Mullings getting underrated there if you ask me if that is his final rating, I don't think there should be that huge of a gulf between him and Edwards.
