inside: this potato soup is a family favorite whenever it is cold. We love the little zing of flavor it has as well.

I love soup! And I love this zesty potato soup recipe! In the winter months I make it a lot. My husband is also a huge soup fan.. the kids… not.so.much. But that doesn’t stop me from making lots of soup and I’m always looking for new recipes. A few years ago I found this recipe when I was looking for holiday party recipes. I wanted to make a big batch of soup to serve at my husbands’ staff dinner. It turned out great and I’ve made it several times since then. When I was thinking of a recipe that used Tabasco, this popped into my mind. Tabasco is what makes this potato soup so zesty, and different from my other potato soup recipes.

I think the toppings are what make a soup really amazing, you know? They give great texture and more flavor to this already tasty soup. You can also personalize the flavor of the soup by adding more bacon or whatever you really like.

It sounds delicious but way too fattening! I’m going to try to substitute a few things and see how it turns out. Never would have thought of tabasco

This looks really good! I don’t like the taste of Tabasco so I’m going to try to substitute Frank’s Hot Sauce (which I love the taste of!). I hope it turns out!

I love to make razor clam chowder ’cause I live at the ocean, and I wonder now if Tabasco would spice the chowder up also? Oh yes and by the way , I am a quilter also.

This soup was delicious, I was skimpy with the tabasco and I also added 1/2 cup diced onion. The was for night one .Still had a lot of “lumpy” but yummy soup left. Day two, I heated the soup and I cooked a bag of Broccoli In the micro for about 5 minutes In a micro safe covered dish. Put a batch of zesty soup in the blender to smooth it out a little then added a cup of cooked broccoli with a little broccoli water and pureed it. Poured the soup into bowls, added the cheese a few flowerettes, and bacon bits…into the micro until the cheese is melted. Beautiful presentation and very tasty potato, broccoli bisque. I think for day three I will freeze the rest, hope it freezes well.

Add Flour Or Cornstarch

You can thicken soup by adding flour, cornstarch, or another starchy substitute. For the best results, never add flour or cornstarch directly to your soup. If you do, it will clump up on top. Instead, ladle a small amount of broth into a separate bowl and let it cool.

How do you thicken soup from a can? ›

Cornstarch is a great option as it is a natural thickening agent, but you'll want to be careful about how much you use. Start with 1 tablespoon of cornstarch whisked together with cold water to create a slurry. Then, gradually add the slurry to the soup, letting it boil for one to two minutes before adding more.

Should you boil canned soup? ›

Warming the soup in a saucepan will always give a soup with a better flavour than the same soup heated in the microwave. The instruction on the tin always used to say do not boil as it will effect the flavour, it is very difficult to heat soup in a microwave without boiling it.

What if potato soup is too gluey? ›

If you've ever tried potato leek soup and found it to have a gluey texture, it's because the potatoes released too much starch from being over handled. This is unfortunately easy to do with a food processor or blender (heck, it can even happen when making mashed potatoes, which is why I avoid using an electric mixer).

Why is my potato soup gloopy? ›

Processing potatoes too much gives them a gummy, sticky texture that will turn your soup into slime after adding liquids. If you slice the potatoes too thin, or pulverize them in a food processor, the veggies release extra starch that gives your soup a gluey consistency.

Why are my boiled potatoes gummy? ›

Some cells will inevitably burst, releasing tacky gel that helps give mashed potatoes their cohesiveness. But if too much gelled starch seeps out of the cells, either from overcooking or too-vigorous mashing (or both), gumminess ensues.

Why are my potatoes gummy? ›

When too much starch gets released, the potatoes become gummy, gluey, and unappetizing. Overworking the potatoes can happen in a couple ways: either by simply handling them too much, or by using a food processor, blender, or similar tool, which mixes the potatoes too aggressively.
